Line Up
Greg Davis
Tenor Saxophone
Greg the Trumpet is a saxophonist. The monicker Greg the Trumpet was coined by a half-witted cutter at the once-esteemed Savile Row tailoring establishment of Denman & Goddard. Frank Byars, who shall remain nameless, was entrusted with bringing into being a sartorial creation equal in artistic glory to the performance delivered by our eponymous hero at Denman & Goddard’s Christmas bash circa 1994.
Dazzled to the point of befuddlement by the horn player’s efforts, and ignorant of, amongst other items, his surname, Byars hazarded a stab at the artist’s instrument (not literally) in order to identify him for their pattern archive. The denizens of London’s West End took to the nickname and, thenceforth, that became what, in this portion of the globe, he answers to.
Paul Eldridge
Piano
Since training at the Guildhall School Of Music, Paul Eldridge has been working extensively on the London jazz and pop circuit with a wide variety of singers and bands including Suggs, Hamish Stewart and the Rumble Strips. In 2003 he supported Bob Geldof at the Oxford Playhouse as keyboardist for the singer/songwriter Rosie Wilby. He has appeared at the Jazz Café, the 100 Club, Ronnie Scott’s and performs regularly with the swing band Blue Harlem at festivals around the UK and Europe.
Paul often works as a solo pianist in some of London’s top restaurants and clubs. These include The Club at The Ivy, the Groucho Club, Restaurant 34 and Galvin La Chapelle. He has also worked in most of London’s prestigious hotels such as The Landmark, The Dorchester, The Hilton and Claridges.
Sandy Burnett
Double Bass
Sandy Burnett is one of the UK’s most authoritative broadcasters in the field of classical music. His broadcasts, interviews, and lectures are all underpinned by the hands-on experience of being a practising musician.
Since 2017, Sandy has been an accredited Arts Society lecturer, his talks aimed at unlocking the worlds of classical music and jazz to general arts-loving audiences; his busy diary of speaking engagements takes him right across the world. After spending a season as the Academy of Ancient Music's Hogwood Fellow, in the spring of 2020 he set up an online Listening Club to explore great works of classical music; conceived as a lockdown project, it has built up an enthusiastic and loyal following. He leads cultural tours to music festivals everywhere from New Orleans to Leipzig, and Bath to Budapest. Having learned his trade from Martin Randall Travel, whose clients gave him a 100% approval rating, he currently works in close partnership with ACE Cultural Tours.
